Overview

This role is responsible for managing the day to day administration and driving direct outbound sales of the Sotheby’s retail wine business.  This person needs to deliver sales to meet targets and goals as set.  This person should be identifying proactive business getting opportunities and developing a portfolio of actively engaged clients to help drive aggressive growth of our retail business.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible in the day to day administration and purchasing procedures of retail business
  • Responsible for selling wine to High Net Worth clients through all available selling channels (phone, email, 5th floor selling space, etc.), by focusing on client driven sales and inventory driven sales
  • Sell Futures/En Primeur wines and build a strong Futures business
  • Maintain and organise Sotheby's wine store and office cellar
  • Maintaining current client relationships and identifying proactive ways to continue these relationships and translate these into longer term transactional opportunities
  • Developing new business opportunities and develop strategies around how to identify and target new clients
  • Work with auction team to create/get more crossover clients from auction to retail
  • Responsible for regular analysis of buyers in both auction and retail to target buying habits
  • Ensure clients are appropriately managed
  • Meet and exceed sales goals
  • Provide inventory recommendations to Retail Manager
  • Understand our wine portfolio and demonstrate a strong knowledge of wine
  • Contribute to retail marketing campaigns by writing and creating content emails,
  • Promoting retail business through social networking, attending events and by hosting tastings, talks and lectures at Sotheby’s Wine and in third party locations

Qualifications

  • Degree educated or equivalent desirable
  • Strongly proficient in Microsoft Office Excel
  • WSET qualified to advanced certificate level required
  • Experience of The Asian fine wine business/market highly beneficial
  • Strong wine knowledge and market understanding of classic regions / investment grade wines
  • A proven track record of successfully generating sales, ideally to high net worth individuals
  • Enjoys interacting with people, comfortable entertaining clients
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic
  • Organized and efficient
  • Able to work well in a team-oriented environment
  • Willingness to learn and grow
  • Excellent spoken English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and strong in written English
  • Assist at auctions and events as required
  • Flexible to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends during sale and deadline periods
